A walk in the rain around lake Matheson, was a sweet stop along the ride. With the rain bucketing down we took shelter at a café with Alex and Dave until it stopped. The slightly snowy mountains with waterfalls and big blue lakes made the Haast pass a cracker of a ride. We checked out at a campsite on the lake, where we almost crashed into each other on gravel. Karine panicked and fell over, followed by me falling over as well. With all the gear on the bikes and petrol pissing out we couldn’t lift them up. Two campers ran to help us recover and needless to say, we lost a bit too much dignity to stay at that campsite so we pushed on to the next one. It was a great end result as we ended out camped on the side of a lake on the sand, about 4 meters from the water and surrounded by mountains.

Menu - Moroccan couscous with dehydrated peas and mushroom 6/10
